The challenge
The Lillyvale Feedlot, near Condamine, has a 2125 m deep sub-artesian groundwater supply bore tapping the Precipice Sandstone aquifer in the GAB. Groundwater discharging from the bore has a temperature of up to 75 degrees centigrade. Prior to being used for stock watering, the water temperature must be reduced to 30 degrees centigrade to be palatable for stock drinking use.
Our solution
Proterra Group worked with a specialist water engineer to develop an Options Assessment which outlined several options to achieve the desired outcome.
The benefit
Four options were presented to the client, each offering unique benefits and each with varying overall life cycle costs. The options varied from a cooling pond, requiring earthworks and pipework, to a Heat Exchanger Open Circuit Cooling Tower.
The result
We were able to recommend a solution to the feedlot which provides sufficient cooling and has the lowest life cycle cost.
