The challenge
Western Downs Regional Council needed to decommission previously closed landfill sites, remove them from the Environmental Authority and investigate the feasibility of phyto-capping for future regional landfills.
Our solution
Proterra Group was engaged to develop Landfill Closure and Rehabilitation Management Plans and Environmental Impact Assessments for the Council�s minor closed landfill sites.
This project also requires Proterra Group to complete the application through the Department of Environment and Science to decommission five landfill sites. They are currently working with subcontractors to develop a phyto-capping solution for the old Dalby Landfill.
The benefit
Proterra Group successfully delivered Landfill Closure and Rehabilitation Management Plans, Environmental Impact Assessments submitted an application through the DES Connect Portal. DES consequently approved the decommissioning of the five landfills.
The result
By decommissioning the five landfills on Council's Environmental Authority, the Council�s operational burden was reduced, and their compliance with the auspicing legislation was ensured.
