The challenge
In 2019 Paroo Shire Council suddenly found themselves in the market for a new CEO. They needed an immediate replacement while they conducted the recruitment process for a permanent replacement. Recruiting Senior Managers can be a difficult and generally time-consuming endeavour, and Council needed to be sure they had a strong leader in place in the interim.
Our solution
Proterra Group provided a Senior Manager to fulfil the role of Chief Executive Officer during this period. The temporary appointee was experienced in leading and motivating workforces in Local Government and was able to develop and implement systems and processes to enable Council to effectively operate until the new full-time CEO was sourced.
The benefit
Council saw many benefits in having an Engineering CEO to lead the organisation and it was also their desire to engage the services of a Senior Engineering Director who was already working onsite on secondment for Council. This meant that the incumbent was already up to speed on current Council issues and needs including staffing requirements and council systems and processes. This alleviated the need for any onboarding of a new, temporary resource. Council also commented on the benefits of having an Engineering CEO leading the organisation.
The result
Council was able to continue operating effectively and efficiently during the recruitment process for the new CEO was finalised, and they commenced their appointment.
