Proterra Group has held the operation and management contract for the Longreach Waste Facility since May 2015. Upon taking over operations of the site, Proterra Group engaged in a major clean-up, including survey, organising of scrap metal clean-up, redistribution, and separation of landfill recycling areas.
We have developed site-specific management and closure plans to assist Council in meeting their licence requirements. Ongoing site operational duties include, but are not limited to:
• Compaction and covering of waste daily at the tip face,
• Ensuring the facility is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition, including maintaining of office facilities and site litter control,
• Opening and closure of the facility at the designated times,
• Ensure that waste is disposed of by the public in the appropriate area and the waste streams are kept free from contamination,
• Maintain a good balance of customer service to residents together with clear direction as to their responsibilities, and
• Meeting the conditions of the Council’s Environmental Authority under the Environmental Protection Act (1994).

As a result of this contract, we currently employ 2.2 full time equivalent personnel, injecting $112,000 worth of wages into the region during the 21/22 financial year alone.
This money goes into the hands of your grocery stores, butchers, cafes, pubs, and many more local businesses. As part of doing business within the region, Proterra Group supports many local businesses and considers engaging local businesses an important element in our philosophy of encouraging the growth of regional communities. During the 21/22 financial year, we spent approximately $35,500 with Longreach suppliers.
